We are very glad to share that after the months of criticism, the Federal government announced a new Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy program to help businesses through pandemic. The program is still in the works and will start accepting applications in the very near future.
However, we would like to share some of its highlights to make sure you will be ready to apply for it when the intake opens.
Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy will be available to both tenants and property owners until June 2021. The new rent subsidy would support businesses, charities, and non-profits that have suffered a revenue drop, by subsidizing up to 65% of their rent and other eligible expenses until December 19, 2020. The applicants would be able to make claims retroactively for the period that began September 27 and ends October 24, 2020.
