COJG Funding and Lean Management Podcast

We are glad to inform you that Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG) is still open and accepting applications even though the maximum number of trainees is now limited to 25 per applicant. The program’s main goal is to help offset employee training costs by providing financial support to individual employers.

Key Highlights:
– Employers can get up to $10K in government support per person for training costs.
– Employers with 100 or more employees need to contribute 1/2 of the training costs. Small employers with less than 100 employees need to contribute 1/6 of training costs.
– Funding is available to small, medium and large businesses to train existing and new employees.

Speaking of the training, we would like to share a great resource for all of you trying to adopt and implement lean management principles. Here is the podcast with our friend Bill Neeve, president at Cycle Time Management Inc, “The Problem with Lean: Where You May Have Gone Wrong.” Bill shares lean management principles and how to make it work for your company. Please note that lean training is eligible for the Canada-Ontario Job Grant. Contact Bill here.

Last chance to apply for COJG training grant

We wanted to remind you that some of the government funding programs, including the popular Canada-Ontario Job Grant for skills training, will end on March 31, 2022. In the past years, the program has always been renewed every fiscal year, but we’ve been told this time it may not be the case. We don’t know yet whether or not COJG will be replaced with a new program or be discontinued.

In this situation, your right strategy is to apply for the funding if you have any 3rd party training needs.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a for-profit business of any size and industry
  • Located in Ontario
  • At least 1 employee who is not the business owner on payroll
  • Current employees and candidates are eligible trainees

Eligible Costs:

  • Training (tuition) fees for the skills training (3rd party training only)
  • Books & training supplies/materials
  • Examination fees
  • Other mandatory training fees, if applicable

Amount:

  • 50%-83% of the cost up to a maximum of $10K per trainee.

CHECK ELIGIBILITY

Canada-Ontario Job Grant may end on March 31st

As we are coming to the end of the government fiscal year 2020, I must inform you that the future of the Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG), a popular skills training incentive for businesses of all industries and sizes, is uncertain.

The program was first launched in fiscal 2014 and was supposed to end in fiscal 2019. However, due to pandemic and budget uncertainty, the program was automatically continued through fiscal 2020. As of today, there is no word from the government whether or not this program will be alive after April 1, 2021.

So, if you, your clients, partners or suppliers need to upgrade the skills of their employees, it is better to act immediately and submit the application. The program provides 50%-83% of the training expenses depending on the size of your business.
