Amount: 50% cost-share funding for eligible costs up to $20,000 per project

The Maple Production Improvement Initiative opened to submissions on November 9, 2023. The Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, Maple Production Improvement Initiative supports maple syrup producer productivity and efficiency through funding for equipment and woodlot management.

The Canadian and Ontario governments are investing up to $1 million over two years to support productivity and growth in the province’s maple syrup sector.

Eligible costs

Projects eligible costs include:

  • Purchase and installation of new or used equipment or technology from an equipment dealer or supplier, that increases productivity, efficiency, and growth
  • Planning for tubing systems conducted by third-party service providers
  • Woodlot improvements conducted by a qualified third-party service provider, including tree marking or development of a forest plan.

Among the eligibility criteria, producers must have had a minimum of 1,000 taps in operation as of April 1, 2023 to qualify.

Amount

Under the program, producers can receive up to 50% cost-share funding for eligible costs, to a maximum of $20,000 per project.

Deadline

Claim deadline is March 1, 2024.

Eligible costs can be incurred retroactively to April 1, 2023.

Maple Syrup Production

According to the province, maple syrup production contributed nearly $42 million to Ontario’s gross domestic product in 2022, and the industry supports more than 1,000 jobs.
