Amount: $15,000 per trainee up to a maximum of $300,000 per applicant

 

Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG) aims to help address skills mismatches and ensure that employees are being trained in high-demand areas by covering two thirds costs up to a maximum of $10,000 per trainee in government contributions. If hiring and training an unemployed Albertan, up to 100% of training costs could be covered, up to $15,000 per trainee. In order to help ensure Alberta employers have equitable access to the program, individual employers are capped at $300,000 per year in grant funding.

Eligibility Criteria: Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG)

Eligible employers:

  • All private sector employers, including sole proprietors and partnerships. As well as non-profit sector
  • First Nations and Métis Settlements in Alberta
  • the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation and Alberta Treasury Branches in communities with population less than 100,000

Eligible trainees:

  • New or existing employees that will fill current or future job vacancies
  • Business owners (incorporated, unincorporated, sole-proprietor, partnerships) with 4 or fewer employees, including all owners, are now eligible trainees
  • Employed family members
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) entitled to work in Canada who are currently residing in Alberta

Eligible training duration and format:

  • Minimum 21 hours of training must start within 6 months of approval and be completed within 52 weeks of start date
  • Training can start once the application is received by the CAJG
  • Training can be e-learning, part-time, full-time, on-site or in a classroom and must result in a form of credential
  • Customized training is eligible.

  • Tuition fees or instructional fees charged by the training provider
  • Mandatory student fees
  • Examination fees
  • Textbooks and software
  • Other required materials and supplies directly related to the training course
  • Eligible travel cost for participant and trainers (outside of Edmonton and Calgary) when training is over 100 km one way within Alberta for small and medium-sized organizations

The new expanded eligibility criteria are effective until February 28, 2022
