AI Assist program is designed to help innovative SMEs navigate the challenges of developing and adapting generative AI (GenAI) and deep learning (DL) solutions and to assist SMEs with awareness, planning and execution in order to develop these technologies safely and ethically.
AI Assist supports Canadian SMEs in undertaking scientific research, product development, testing and validation of AI technologies, allowing them to incorporate GenAI and DL technologies into their core products and services.
As part of the AI Assist program, NRC IRAP’s network of industrial technology advisors across Canada are enabling SMEs to develop and access the right knowledge, computing resources and AI tools needed to carry out research in AI and apply it to their core business.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the AI Assist Program, applicants must:
- be an SME located in Canada;
- have less than 500 employees;
- not be a startup.
Eligible Costs
Eligible costs include:
- Labour-related activities;
- Cost for contractor activities;
Funding
- Up to 80% costs can be covered for labour-related activities.
- Up to 50% costs covered for contractor services.

Contact the National Research Council. NRC will assign an advisor to work with your company and determine the qualifications of your AI project.
