As we recently announced, the Canada Ontario Job Grant (COJG) program, the funding program for skills training, has been extended. However, the program rules changed a little bit. We summarized the changes for you below. The changes are effective April 1, 2017.
The maximum amount of the funding per trainee increased to $15,000 on the condition that you train an unemployed individual and then hire one as a result of the training. More good news – the government pays 100% of the training costs in such cases!
- The funding agencies now have a greater authority to challenge the reasonableness of the training fees. Get ready to answer tough questions regarding the cost of the training.
- The maximum allowance for textbooks, software and other training materials is capped to $500 per trainee. The loophole to claim the software costs becomes narrow.
- NEW! Employee travel costs are eligible if the employees need to travel over 24 km each way for training. The maximum cap for allowable travel expenses is $500 per trainee.
