[Now up to 15K] How Skills Training Funding Changed This Fiscal Year

As we recently announced, the Canada Ontario Job Grant (COJG) program, the funding program for skills training, has been extended. However, the program rules changed a little bit. We summarized the changes for you below. The changes are effective April 1, 2017.

The maximum amount of the funding per trainee increased to $15,000 on the condition that you train an unemployed individual and then hire one as a result of the training. More good news – the government pays 100% of the training costs in such cases!
  • The funding agencies now have a greater authority to challenge the reasonableness of the training fees. Get ready to answer tough questions regarding the cost of the training.
  • The maximum allowance for textbooks, software and other training materials is capped to $500 per trainee. The loophole to claim the software costs becomes narrow.
  • NEW! Employee travel costs are eligible if the employees need to travel over 24 km each way for training. The maximum cap for allowable travel expenses is $500 per trainee.
If you have more questions or are ready to proceed with your COJG application, contact us now and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
