It’s been a slow start of the new SMART Green Program for purchasing equipment (50% of its cost up to $200,000). It was launched in October 2016, yet the program has not approved any major application. The reason is not only in the complex application process that requires engineering pre-assessment, but also in certain misconceptions about the program. Let me demystify the program in short Q&A below. Get Started
Amount: $1,500,000 in grant plus $5,000,000 in non-interest repayable loan
As you may know, the SMART Green Program is open to small- and medium-sized manufacturers throughout Ontario with a minimum of 10 full time employees. To be eligible, the applying facility’s GHG emissions must be under 25,000 tonnes per year and it must not be participating in or have not opted into Ontario’s Cap & Trade Program. SMART Green provides assistance in the form of non-repayable grants of 50 per cent of eligible costs up to $200,000.
