The applications for the new SMART Green Program are accepted as of yesterday, October 31st. Yes, this time they launched the program at Halloween so yesterday night I spent few hours studying new application process after trick-or-treating with kids. Good thing I had many candies so I stayed awake for a few hours after the midnight.
The main focus of the program is to help manufacturers buy production, hydro and HVAC equipment that will result in greenhouse gas emission reduction and productivity improvement at the same time.
Positive changes. The minimum number of employees the applicant must have is now 10, down from 15. The applicant can now be located anywhere in Ontario and may even apply for multiple facilities. The maximum amount doubled to $200,000, or 50% of the project cost (up from 35%). The list of eligible cost now includes shipping.
The detailed assessment criteria are not published yet. I will attend the official program launch on November 8th on your behalf and hope to get a better understanding of the assessment criteria. I will also be able to ask your questions to the program management. So, please send any questions you have about the program.
