A major funding opportunity has just opened for companies and organizations working in (or looking to enter) Canada’s defence supply chains.

The Regional Defence Investment Initiative (RDII) is now accepting applications, offering up to $10 M in substantial interest-free repayable funding to help Canadian businesses scale, innovate, and strengthen their capabilities in the defence sector.

This national program is delivered by the Federal Regional Development agencies:

  • FedDev Ontario in the Southern Ontario Region
  • FedNor Ontario in the Northern Ontario Region
  • Canada Economic Development Agency for Quebec (CED)
  • Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland & Labrador
  • Prairies Canada in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta
  • PacifiCan in British Columbia
  • CanNor in Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories

Eligibility Requirements

You may qualify if you are:

  • For-profit business located and operating in Canada
  • Employing at least 5 full-time staff in the region
  • Already part of, or planning to join, defence supply chains

Eligible Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Digitization, automation or technology integration investments that enhance productivity and competitiveness.
  • Market diagnostics, development and expansion, including commercialization strategies (e.g., participation in technology showcases).
  • Preparation and acquisition of certifications required to integrate into domestic and international defence supply chains for specialized applications.
  • Acquisition of equipment, as well as expansion and modernization of facilities.
  • Adoption, development or improvement of dual-use technologies with both civilian and military applications.
  • Research and development with a focus on support for late-stage product development.

Funding

Applicants can receive up to 75% of eligible costs.

Deadline

Deadlines vary by region, and in many regions, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. In Southern Ontario, the deadline is January 21, 2026.
