The Advanced Manufacturing Fund (AMF) is a $200-million fund delivered province-wide by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). AMF promotes continued growth of Ontario’s advanced manufacturing sector by supporting efforts to develop cutting-edge technologies and large-scale activities to improve processes and increase productivity, establish clusters or global supply chains and collaborate with private sector, and research and post-secondary institutions.

Eligibility Criteria: Advanced Manufacturing Fund (AMF)

  • Established for-profit businesses located in Ontario that are incorporated in Canada.
  • Eligible manufacturing firms are:
    • Undertaking manufacturing and research and development (R&D) activities in Ontario;
    • Undertaking manufacturing activities in Ontario;
    • Conducting R&D in Ontario, but not manufacturing in Ontario.
  • The for-profit businesses must present a sustainable business model and have a track record of profitability.

Eligible Cost: Advanced Manufacturing Fund (AMF)

  • Activities related to
    • Prototyping
    • Demonstration projects
    • Advanced product testing
    • Applied research leading to a practical application
  • Work undertaken to achieve technological advancement through the creation/improvement of existing materials, devices, products or processes
  • The adoption or adaptation of highly innovative products, technologies or processes that support product or process innovation.
    • Products (e.g. machinery and equipment)
    • Technologies (e.g., hardware, software)
    • Processes

  • Writing Application Package for the Advanced Manufacturing Fund (AMF);
  • Writing Statement of Intent to participate in the AMF program;
  • Profitability Analysis of the Proposed Project;
  • Preparing Project Financial Calculations;
  • Assisting in Report Writing once AMF application is approved.

Examples of Projects Funded by Advanced Manufacturing Fund

Advanced Manufacturing FundBaylis Medical Company. Government of Canada’s investment is $15.2 million.  The funding supported an exciting project that will bring new, innovative medical devices to market. Baylis will manufacture and commercialize three new medical product lines in southern Ontario. These innovative, first-in-Canada medical devices will be used during medical procedures and will fill a void in the medical devices market. Not only will this funding help enhance Baylis’ global competitiveness, it will strengthen Ontario’s medical device cluster and create 60 new manufacturing jobs and 30 knowledge-based R&D jobs.
